The Securities and Exchange Board of India - Free Essay Example
Introduction The Preamble of the Securities and Exchange Board of India describes the basic functions of the Securities and Exchange Board of India as to protect the interests of investors in securities and to promote the development of, and to regulate the securities market and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto (Source https://www.sebi.gov.in/) Powers of SEBI with relevant examples As explained in the above sections, SEBIà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s primary motive is to protect the interests of the investors and to ensure the appropriate functioning of the securities market. Such a body without power would be a toothless tiger. SEBI enjoys ità ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s powers via the SEBI act 1992. Such powers were provided to SEBI in 1995 via an amendment to the SEBI act 1992. The power it obtains via the act can be categorized into 3 broad areas Power to Issue Directions Power to Investigate Power to Enforce (Cease Desist Proceedings) (Source https://www.sebi.gov.in/) In the sections below, weà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢d explore each of the above areas alongwith relevant examples of the same based on information publicly available. Power to Issue Directions As per Section 11B of SEBI Act 1992, SEBI can issue directions to secure the interests of the investors and/or proper functioning of securities market or for appropriate management of entities that fall within ità ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s ambits. Such directions can be issued to individuals or companies as appropriate. SEBI can issue such directions after appropriate enquiry has been made in to the matters. (Source https://www.sebi.gov.in/) Some cases where SEBI has ordered such directions post enquiry have been shared below. Attachment of Deposit Money of A G Shares and Securities In an order issued on 16th Jun 2014, SEBI directed NSE to remit the deposit money of A G Shares and Securities in favour of the regulator. A G Shares and Securities had to pay SEBI towards outstanding turnover fees but it failed to do so. With this backdrop, SEBI issued the direction to NSE to ensure that it recovers the money as well as other market participants are aware of such penalties incase of such situations. This direction was issued in exercise of powers conferred under Section 28 A(1)(b), 11(2)(ia) of the SEBI Act 1992. (Source https://www.sebi.gov.in/cms/sebi_data/attachdocs/1402913142682.pdf) Vibgyor to refund money On 20th Feb 2014, SEBI directed Vibgyor Allied Infrastructure Ltd. to refund all the money raised by ità ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s promoters from the investors within 3 months after factoring in the interest due assuming an interest rate of 15%. SEBI found out that Vibgyor had raised money from investors via means that were not within the statutory requirements of the law. SEBI as part of ità ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s enquiry found out that the details of most of the investors were bogus and suspected the money used to buy such bonds were probably not coming from legitimate investors. In order to ensure that the genuine investorà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s interests are not impacted and to ensure that the financial system is not misused, it issued such a directive to the founders of the company. (Source https://www.telegraphindia.com/1140221/jsp/business/story_18005038.jsp#.U58aavmSxyw) Power to Investigate As per Section 11C of SEBI Act 1992, SEBI can investigate individuals or companies to secure the interests of investors and/or to ensure appropriate functioning of the securities market. The board need not have concrete proof to start such an investigation and a reasonable doubt would suffice to initiate the investigation. As part of ità ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s investigations, SEBI can request various documents from the individuals or companies and they would be bound to provide such documentation to SEBI, which SEBI can keep upto 6 months with them. SEBI can also direct individuals to appear personally before the board or ità ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s representatives failing which the individual would be liable for jail upto one year or a fine of 1 Crore Rupees or both. Further any delay beyond the initial date of appearance would require the individual to pay up to 5 Lakh Rupees per day making it one of the stiffest fine under the Indian law. Such strict fines/punishment shows the power that S EBI truly enjoys. (Source https://www.sebi.gov.in/) In the paragraphs below, we discuss in detail cases where such investigations were carried out by SEBI. Investigate Credit Suisse for Insider Trading On 5th Jun 2014, SEBI ordered an investigation against Hong Kong based asset fund Factorial Capital Management Ltd for short selling LT Finance Holdings Ltd. SEBI had reasonable belief that Factorial had access to insider information about a possible share sale at a discounted price in future and took a heavy short position. On 13th Mar 2014, Factorial bought aggressively LT Finance Derivative at a price of Rs. 79.15/- per share. This single derivative accounted for 84.15% of the entire outstanding position causing this an obvious outlier. At the end of the day the discounted share sell announcement was made with the price fixed at Rs. 70/- per share. Factorial is accused of making close to Rs20 Crore as part of this deal. At the time of accusation, SEBI didnà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢t have concrete information to prove ità ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s case but it had a reasonable doubt based on the transaction type and volume and the profit made by the asset management company, especially when the c ompany didnà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢t have any significant exposure to this particular security before. If proven guilty, Factorial would have to pay up to 3 times the profit it made from the deal. Factorial spokesperson maintained that Factorial didnà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢t do anything wrong and they would cooperate with SEBI in the entire investigation process. Factorial has 21 days to respond to the orders of SEBI but till the time the investigation is completed, they have been barred from participating in Indian security markets. (Source https://www.sebi.gov.in/cms/sebi_data/attachdocs/1401975796790.pdf) Investigate for Suspicious/Insider Trading Transactions Post Election Post the 2014 Lok Sabha elections RBI, SEBI and other institutions had created different committees to monitor any suspicious or insider trading activities. On 16th May, SEBI noticed abnormal movement of the market and ordered an investigation of 30 entities that included some of the financial institutions as well as high net worth individuals. SEBI had created 2 separate committees to monitor such trades. While one of the committee was monitoring the results, another was keeping a tab on the price movement. SENSEX jumped by 2,100 points within one minute of trading and trading had to be halted to prevent a large volatility. (Source https://mg.glpublications.in/epaperpdf//1952014//1952014-md-hr-2.pdf) Investigate HDFC Mutual Fund for Front Running Before we go into the details of the case, it is important to understand the concept of à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã
âFront Runningà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã for the benefit of the readers. Front running means that an entity places an order in front of another entity who has a definite intent of acquiring certain specific securities. For Ex:- If entity B wants to buy 100, 000 shares of a company and someone has an advanced information about it, then another entity A could technically buy these shares before and increasing the price of the share. This would mean that entity B will be buying the securities at a higher price. Another approach could be the entity A could quote a higher price to sell similar number of quantities and make a profit. The profit would be high if entity B happens to be a large financial institution. In 2007, SEBI found occurrences of such trading by a particular dealer working for HDFC named Nilesh Kapadia in connivance with another 3 individuals. SEBI initiated a probe that last ed almost 7 years showing the determination of SEBI to uncover the truth. As part of ità ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s investigation SEBI not only gathered the details of the financial transaction but also leveraged ità ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s power to collect transcripts of the phone conversations between the individuals. In this particular case Nilesh Kapadia would tip his college mate about an upcoming trade that he will be making on behalf of HDFC so that his friend could first place the orders and in the process making a large profit that was shared between them. SEBIà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s thorough investigation successfully proved the allegations and even though initially Mr. Nilesh refused of any wrongdoing he eventually told the truth when faced with irrefutable evidence that included phone conversations. (Source https://www.sebi.gov.in/cmorder/orderhdfc.pdf) Power to Enforce (Cease Desist Proceedings) As per Section 11D of SEBI Act 1992, SEBI can stop people or companies to trade or conduct business to secure the interests of investors and/or to ensure appropriate functioning of the securities market. (Source https://www.sebi.gov.in/) As explained under the above investigation section, SEBI finally barred the individuals involved in front end running frauds from participating in the Indian securities market. SEBI can bar entities from dealing in the Indian securities market even when they are under investigation like it did for Factorial. Bar Mrs. Reena Bansal from Trading On 9th Jun 2014, SEBI barred Mrs. Reena Bansal from any trading in the indian securities system as well as instructed both NSDL and CDSL not to execute any instructions from her. The order was primarily issued to prevent her from acting as a sub-broker. While she was not a registered broker with SEBI, all her transactions (buying/selling of shares as well as money transfers) had ample evidence to show that she was acting as a broker. She was issued a summon that was undelivered and since she didnà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢t respond within the stipulated time, she was barred from doing any transactions. (Source https://www.sebi.gov.in/cms/sebi_data/attachdocs/1402307620679.pdf) CEASE AND DESIST ORDER AGAINST DR. NALAMOTHU VENKATA KRISHNA In Nov 2009, SEBI ordered Dr. N V Krishna not to trade directly or indirectly in the India securities market. It also asked him not to issue any online or offline solicitation from public about any information or investment. What SEBI noticed in this particular case is that Dr. N V Krishna was advertising via his online blogs that he can generate high return based on his access to certain insider information. This was clearly against the interests of the market and hence SEBI barred him from participating in any transaction. (Source https://www.sebi.gov.in/cmorder/nalamothuorder.html) Conclusion In presence of a lot of fraudulent activities that happened in early nineties, it was essential that a regulator is needed to monitor the indian securities sector. Since ità ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s inception SEBI has done a fantastic job in checking a lot of such activities and has taken a lot of individuals and companies to task. While this is worth highlighting, SEBI has also been alleged to be a bit high-handed in certain scenarios. Recently SAT sent a signal in this direction to SEBI. In conclusion, while SEBI has been doing a great job, it needs to ensure that it doesnà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢t cross a lot of boundaries causing itself to get overwhelmed with counter cases and fail. India needs a regulatory body like SEBI to protect the interests of the investors as well as appropriate functioning of the stock market.

Advanced Human Resources Trends and Challenges in modern business environments free essay sample
Imagine an organization in the high technology area of wireless. The market dynamics are very high due to the impact of the technology. This calls for strategic changes in business on a constant basis. In this environment a misalignment between the organization direction and human resource direction can be fatal. This can be demonstrated by taking a case study of the technology change. Second generation technologies in mobile communication dominated the scene for a decade. Gradually there was a change in the way consumers used the services. There was more emphasis on the data services than the traditional voice services. A firm working in developing these technologies easily picks up these indicators from the market and the industry bodies. The business is also aware of the future changes with third generation mobile technologies. However in this case, the human resource department is totally unaware of the changes and the future direction. We will write a custom essay sample on Advanced Human Resources: Trends and Challenges in modern business environments or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This has direct impact on the way the resources are picked and trained. Without the strategic direction, the organization still has and continues to grow the resources to tackle the second generation technologies, which is the current market requirement. When the new technology arrives, the organization has to transform almost fully within a short time. If the human resources department was proactive, it would have picked up the business directions. This would have directly impacted the type of resources that they would bring into the company. The new recruitments would have skills necessary for the current requirements as well as to move to the new technologies. The organization would be better equipped and would be able to move faster. Although the above example is a simplistic illustration, it is an indication of how much human resources can impact in the modern business environment. The role and importance of human resource management have changed over the years. From the traditional role of recruitment and retaining employees, the function now looks at a broader spectrum of activities in an organization. In line with the expanding scope, the function has increasingly become a strategic unit in organizations. In the current business environment which is characterized by dynamic changes and speed of decision making, human resources has been effectively used by successful organizations to bring about competitive edge. This is more relevant in an age when intellectual capital is considered to be the most important competitive advantage. This paper looks at the different aspects that influence the role of human resource management and the different functions that it has to perform in the current business environment. It also looks at the key trends in human resource personal in the current environments and its impact. Human resources have greater responsibility of ensuring that the organization is able to attract, retain and contribute to the growth of the firm. It now needs to understand the business need and ensure that the organizational talent level is aligned to achieve the business goals. Leadership development is another key area where human resource is increasingly seen to provide initiative in an organization. Further, the paper tries to identify key challenges that arise due to the new business and working environment. From managing limited teams in single location, human resource department now deals with multi-cultural environment with different perspectives and ways of working. Diversity can now be put to the advantage of an organization instead of creating hurdles in working closely. Innovativeness of a firm now could be based on diversity. This illustrates how the function now needs to adopt new tools, strategies and techniques for effectively carrying out their activities. With increasing number of acquisitions, mergers and consolidation in the market in most industries, creating the best team out of the different cultures, work environments and practices is an ongoing challenge to the human resource development. It must ensure that the productivity and availability of talent is consistent when organizations go through such major changes. It must also ensure that the underlying DNA of the organization that enabled it to be successful is not lost when such changes occur. Further challenges for the companies in the knowledge economy can come from aspects such as population growth. It is imperative for organizations to look long term, predict the gaps in talent pool that might arise and proactively prepare for it. While there are already different solutions available, it is necessary for organizations to adopt those solutions that fit in the organizationââ¬â¢s culture.

Natural Law theory Essay Example
Natural Law theory Paper Natural Law is becoming more irrelevant due to our secular culture. Natural Law depends on the belief that the world was designed by a creator, and that morality is absolute according to his standards. Aquinas assumes that all men must seek to worship God. What about an atheist? According to Thompson, if someone does not believe in God, then ââ¬Å"the natural law theory loses its foundation. â⬠Furthermore, in todayââ¬â¢s society natural law has largely been replaced by utilitarianism, the belief that our moral choices are less absolute and should be based on creating the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest amount of people. It has even been referred to as, ââ¬Å"the ethics of the planet. â⬠It is far less restrictive and many argue it is a superior philosophy to natural law. According to Peter Mullen, Working with Morality, it may be necessary, for example, to torture an innocent person to save the lives of thousands. Peter Singer once wrote a piece condemning natural law in a magazine called Project Syndicate. He prefers practical ethics to theoretical ethics. He cites the case of a South American woman called Beatriz who was pregnant and suffers from lupus, this made the pregnancy difficult. Furthermore, the child had anencephaly. Singer was enraged that the natural law philosophy of Catholic El Salvador prevented her from getting an abortion. He wrote with regard to natural law, ââ¬Å"The use of the term ââ¬Å"being with a rational natureâ⬠is very broad, perhaps too broad. â⬠Even the Pope has recently condoned the breaking of natural law in extreme circumstances. Pope Francis has indicated that women exposed to the Zika virus may be permitted to use contraception to avoid pregnancy, in a departure from Catholic teaching. We will write a custom essay sample on Natural Law theory specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Natural Law theory specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Natural Law theory specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer His comments came as women in South America frantically try to terminate pregnancies for fear of giving birth to babies with microcephaly, which gives them unusually small heads. He said that unlike abortion, ââ¬Å"avoiding pregnancy is not an absolute evilâ⬠and in certain circumstances it may be ââ¬Å"the lesser evilâ⬠. This proves that natural law is becoming irrelevant even for the Catholic Church. Among more orthodox thinkers, objection to the natural law takes several forms. Many, Protestant evangelicals in particular, presume that natural-law thinking fails to take seriously the condition of human sin and places misguided trust in the powers of human reason debilitated by the Fall. Consequently, natural-law theory is thought to be insufficiently Christocentric and located outside the realm of grace, thereby engendering a version of works-righteousness. These critics remain sceptical out of a concern that natural law is autonomous and somehow external to the centre of theological ethics and Godââ¬â¢s providential care of the world. On the other hand, many would argue that natural law is not irrelevant because it is instinctual within all humans. Some believe that God has implanted the natural law as a form of moral instinct. For example, the writer Johannes Teutonicus said that the natural law of men is based on an, ââ¬Å"instinct proceeding from reason. â⬠Therefore even if one is an atheist you cannot escape the urge to follow natural law based on your conscience. Finally, Natural Law continues to be central to Catholic teaching. Early teachers such as Aquinas supported it and so do modern day clergy. The RCC believes that everyone is subject to it from birth (natio), because it contains only those duties which are derivable from human nature itself, and because, absolutely speaking, its essentials can be grasped by the unaided light of human reason. Just recently in March 2015 Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco has invoked the natural law in stressing the moral unacceptability of gay sex and gay marriage.

Political Morality in Colonial Times Essays - Free Essays
Political Morality in Colonial Times Essays - Free Essays Political Morality in Colonial Times In Webster's dictionary, morality is defined as "principles of right and wrong in conduct; ethics." The principles of morality have countless times evolved over the ages. In earlier times, death was an easy penalty for many crimes. These crimes today are considered minor and are penalized with a slap on the hand. Is this considered wrong? Who is the correct authority to consult on what is right or wrong? In today's society, two major factors concern how the way members of society act and behave. The first is our national government. Members of our government in positions of authority decide everything in our lives in the form of laws which determine our behavior. One of the most important documents written by our government is the Declaration of Independence. The monarchy was taking away power from the colonists and putting more demands on. In return, the colonists declared their freedom from their tyrant. In this document, it states, "All men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." The great men who wrote this down had a strong sense of morals. They believed that men were given rights by God that no one could take away. This is essential to the issue of morality because it determines the rights- that are agreed upon all- are wrong. This brings us to religion. Religion is a major contributor to how we think and act because it mirrors our beliefs in what we hold as right or wrong. An example of this is the native tribes of africa and South America where a number of tribes practice cannibalism. While this is considered a sin in most christian religions, the tribes have evolved into cannibalism as a way to survive in life and have no objections to their eating habits. The problem arises when the line between government and religion is crossed. While religion does not have to power to punish one physically, but rather soulfully of one has sinned. The government has the power to sentence punishment, yet should have no power concerning God. Many different religions have evolved all over the world and in the process, have people have been prosecuted in their faith. The first settlers in the new world came here to avoid prosecution from the powerful church/government of that time. Specifically, the Church of England headed by the king. Puritan leaders led their followers to a place where they could express their religion with no fear of other faiths. One such leader was John Winthrop. John Winthrop was a powerful Puritan governor in the colony of Massachusetts Bay. He believed that this was a calling from God for him to lead the new religious experiment-a covenant with God to built a model for mankind. "We shall be a city upon the hill." declared Winthrop. As governor Winthrop held considerable power. He distrusted the commoners and thought democracy was the "meanest and worst" forms of government. Anyone who brought trouble or had indifferent thought were severely punished to "save their soul." As one of his extensions of his powers he banished Roger Williams, a popular Salem minister with radical ideas and an unrestrained tongue, and Mistress Anne Hutchinson, A strong willed women who challenged the authority of the clergy by stating the truly saved need not bother to obey the laws of God or man. Several problems arise throughout this banishment. I am for a democratic society in which one can express his or her thoughts without the fear of prosecution. They did not have the luxury of this. The need for the expressment of ideas is essential for a growing environment. If no growth is made, then expansion of the community is halted to a standstill. The limit of new idea's must have a point, though. In recent news, the Unabomber has issued a ultimanium with his manuscript. In the past, such a request would have been rediculous. In his manuscript he expresses his view on the evils of technology. While a citizen is entitled to free speech and press, threatening murder is not such an option. There must be limits set. In colonial times these limitations were set by John Winthrop. Total obedience was required and disobedience was not tolerated; therefore, Williams and Hutchinson were banished. I understand the reasoning behind his motives, but his limits were set too low. There was no room for free speech and thinking. Morals today

Bacteriophage Lambda Lysogenic Cycle Biology Essay
Bacteriophage Lambda Lysogenic Cycle Biology Essay Viruses are tiny agents that cause infections in a wide range of hosts including animals, plants, bacteria and other viruses. In particular, viruses that infect bacteria are called bacteriophages, bacterio meaning ââ¬Å"bacteriaâ⬠in Greek and phage meaning ââ¬Å"to eatâ⬠. Bacteriophages are able to undergo lytic and lysogenic cycle to replicate; however, most undergo one or the other cycle to replicate. An example of a bacteriophage that is able to undergo both cycles is bacteriophage lambda (phage lambda). Bacteriophage lambda infects only the bacterium Escherichia coli strain k-12. Phage lambda is unique in its ability to turn replication genes on or off depending on the hostââ¬â¢s condition. When E. coli is infected with phage lambda and the cell dies due to an environmental factor, the phage will switch from the lysogenic to the lytic replication cycle. Bacteriophage lambda was discovered by Esther Lederberg in 1950 while she was working in a laboratory with E. c oli strain k-12. Lederberg is considered a pioneer of bacterial genetics; she was also an immunologist and microbiologist. She flourished academically, receiving a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin where she worked with many other pioneers of microbiology, genetics and immunology, including: Andre Lwoff, Edward Lawrie Tatum, George Wells Beadle, Frances Crick and James Watson. While at the University of Wisconsin, Lederberg was using ultraviolet light on E. coli strain k-12 to mutagenize that specific strain of the bacteria. After prolonged exposure to the ultraviolet light, the bacteria stopped growing and its condition slowly began to deteriorate. An hour and a half after the exposure to the ultraviolet light ceased, the bacteria began to lyse (burst). This led Lederberg to the discovery of bacteriophage lambda. The E. coli sample that Lederberg was using was infected with bacteriophage lambda. The phage was not detected because it was in the lysogenic cycle, which meant that the phage was a prophage, and thus that the phage genome was integrated within the bacterial genome. Bacteriophage lambda sensed that the bacteria was about to die, so it switched its replication genes on and converted to lytic replication, therefore causing the cell to lyse and release the phage into the environment. Lederberg is also accredited with the discovery of induction; the process of when the lysogenic cycle is terminated and the lytic cycle is activated due to adverse conditions caused by ultraviolet light. Lederberg, along with her team of researchers, was awarded the Pasteur award in 1956. Viruses have many different anatomical structures depending on what kind of cells they infect. The anatomical feature that is similar throughout all bacteriophage is the capsid. The capsid or head is a shell made out of protein that contains DNA or RNA, depending on the virus. The capsid also contains some internal proteins. The capsid can have many different configurations, from a polygon-shaped sphere, like an icosahedral, or a rod-shaped helix. The main functions of the capsid are that it allows the virion to attach to its host via special sites on the surface, contains the internal proteins that allows the virus to penetrate the host cell membrane, which enables it to inject the infectious DNA or RNA into the host cellââ¬â¢s cytoplasm, and that it provides protection for the nucleic acid from the environment and digestion by enzymes. The capsid has structural subunits called capsomers that may contain one or many polypeptide chains. Some viruses have a secondary structure that protects the capsid itself, this is called an envelope. Not all viruses have an envelope; the envelope is made up of glyco-proteins and surrounds the entire capsid for optimum protection. The envelope has two lipid layers intermingled with protein molecules, a lipoprotein bi-layer, and also has a mixture of material that consist of the viral origin and some material from the me mbrane of the host cell. Besides a capsid, some viruses also contain a tail that is attached to the capsid which helps the virus penetrate the host cellââ¬â¢s outer membrane and allows the virus to inject the DNA or RNA into the host cell. The tail consists of two main structures: the tail fibers and a tail sheath. The tail fibers are tiny leg like formations that help the phage attach on to the bacterial cell by clinging on to the surface receptors. The tail sheath is a tube like structure that runs from the capsid to the tail fibers; the tail sheath digs into the cell membrane of the host and the DNA or RNA travels down the sheath and into the cytoplasm of the host and the infectious cycle begins. For viruses without tails, specialized spikes are protruding directly from the capsid that play a similar role to that of tails; the spikes are made up of proteins and help the virus invade the host cell. Bacteriophage lambda has a capsid with an icosahedral configuration that is 55 n anometers in diameter that contains 350-575 capsomers or subunits of 37,000 Daltons; the capsomers are positioned in groups of 5 and 6 subunits or pentamers and hexamers. The tail is 180 micrometers long and contains a single tail fiber that is 25 nanometers long. Bacteriophage lambda does not possess an enveloped capsid.

Business Management Proposal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Business Management Proposal - Essay Example (Rigby, 2005) The basic aim of the proposal would be to develop a modification of law based on the marketing plan for Visual Management Systems Ltd for expansion into the southern States of the country. Apart form this central theme it would also be looked upon there should be enough opportunity and specified methods to penetrate and expand market segments for the company in relation to the use and capability of the CCTV related security technology from the parameters of marketing and for this aspects too your moral and legislative help is extremely needed. The world is in the midst of an all-purpose technological revolution based on CCTV related security technology, defined here as visual security, software related surveillance techniques, and CCTV related security equipment. The macroeconomic benefits of the CCTV related security technology revolution are already apparent in some economies, especially the United States and United Kingdom. Historical experience has shown that such revolutions have often been accompanied by financial booms and busts, and the CCTV related security technology revolution has been no exception. But, while spending on CCTV related security technology goods is likely to remain stable ... While technological change is an ongoing process, there are periods during which technological progress is especially rapid, resulting in new products and falling prices of existing products that have widespread uses in the rest of the economy. Such periods are generally identified with CCTV related security technology revolutions. (Hood, 2003) Earlier examples include textiles production and steam power in the industrial revolution, railroads in the nineteenth century, and electricity in the early twentieth century (the automobile could also be included, but its development was relatively gradual). The effects of such revolutions have generally occurred in three (often overlapping) main stages. First, technological change raises productivity growth in the innovating sector; second, falling prices encourage capital deepening; and, finally, there can be significant reorganization of production around the capital goods that embody the new technology. (Hall, 2006) The growth of the CCTV related security technology sector in the 1980s was an important development for the economy, but it spurred relatively little policy or media interest. True, CCTV related security technology was recognized as a driver of comparative advantage for the US and the UK and there were a few initiatives involving industrial policy and military preparedness, CCTV related security technology was of interest primarily to specialists. (Prawer, 2005) A unique confluence of forces certainly came together in the 1990s: rapid technological advances in the technology sector; widespread recognition that security could be used to comparative advantage as well as process it; the rapid

Nurse Roles & Functions - Essay Example Alternatively, nurses also play instrumental roles in CQI by ensuring that they follow the prescribed rules and systems set by the healthcare organization. Nurses must also improve their service provision approaches to avoid errors experienced in the workplace. The various types of organizational hazards encountered while working at a local hospital entail injuries, accidents, inadequate equipment and congestion (Vincent, 2010). The preventive strategies that should be implemented to prevent workplace-related injuries include the provision of safety gears like gloves, cleaning the wards and the procurement of more equipment. The safety issues in health care, such as prevention of blood borne illnesses is to ensure that nurses use gloves when attending to patients (Vincent, 2010). The prevention of needle stick equipment is by disposing all the used syringes at the correct dump bins where children and other people cannot access them. The prevention of back injury can be handled by avoiding carrying of heavy items or placing medical equipment at places where others cannot overstretch to reach them (Vincent,

November Rain :: English Literature Essays
November Rain I pass a shop display and view my reflection in the glass-a well built man of thirty with a tanned complexion, dark eyes and hair. I seem to have a certain charm and grace that can-and does-go down very well with the ladies. I open the door, pull out the chair, buy the drinks and surprise them with gifts. I stay at their flats after a night out; I leave my belongings there. You could say that Iââ¬â¢m just a bachelor with a lust for living-if I wasnââ¬â¢t married. Iââ¬â¢ve been married ten years and it feels like 40. It was great at first-nights out in clubs, at parties, flirting, teasing and loving each other, or at least touching each other. We had no children to hold us down and a whole world of fun to experience. Then, it stopped. I canââ¬â¢t remember when, where or how. What I know is that for ten years Iââ¬â¢ve been bound to this woman and all the practices of such a colourful marriage have been tried and are jaded; the feelings no longer evident. She is abrupt with her answers and retorts for the most part and otherwise silent, so we both have seemed to have taken our own practices elsewhere, fallen into another personââ¬â¢s arms and experience the same feelings anew. I walk on by, get into my shining convertible (which is now speckled with signs of yet more rain) and speed away. I step into the hall of my home in Chicago, Illinois, and into the kitchen. Rain cascades down the windowpane, such has been the case for much of Novmber. There is a plate of spaghetti Bolognese waiting right on the counter for me. I heat it up, and take it to my study, letting the aroma waft right past my nose. Turning on the stereo, I settle back in my leather, over-cushioned armchair with a long, relaxed sigh. The stereo always starts on Classic Rock radio station. Hard rock, thatââ¬â¢s what I love best. I open the Wall Street Journal, sub-consciously listening to the music in the background. Bliss. ââ¬Å"Blackwater shares haveâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Music in background): ââ¬Å"When I look into your eyes, I can see a love restrained, but darlinââ¬â¢ when I hold you, donââ¬â¢t you know I feel the sameâ⬠â⬠¦I look up to see the source of this slightly familiar song: ââ¬Å"November Rainâ⬠by Guns Nââ¬â¢ Roses. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦both know hearts can change, and itââ¬â¢s hard to hold a candle in the cold November rainâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬

Advertisement: Advertising and Media Literacy Education Essay
Children cannot escape them. They stare at them from every nook and corner. The highways, the roadways, streets all have hoardings, banners, posters screaming about the goodness of the product they are advertising. Newspapers have columns and columns, pages and pages devoted to advertisements. Greatest curse of modern times for children is advertisements. Advertisement reminds the children to buy new things and no wonder they are brainwashed and pester their parents to buy it for them. However, advertisement is a good way to tell about the products. They inform the children about new technology or trend. Similarly, advertising may also have a negative impact on todayââ¬â¢s youth. Junk food ads encourage children to eat unhealthy food, which is often portrayed as fun. See more: Defining research problem and setting objectives Essay Another advantage of advertising is it gives media literacy education. Children need to know that they are being bombarded by messages (both good and bad) every day. They need to be taught how to discern these messages from an early age and to decide how to react to the messages. They also teach them other good things. In addition, advertising is making children feel that without their product, youââ¬â¢re a loser. Kids are very sensitive to that. They become most emotionally vulnerable. Advertisement also educates children and is very informative. How would children cope without news and catching up with what goes around in the society? For instance, sometimes kids do not understand what the commercial is about and they are not yet fully developed. If they see something that is not appropriate then they will start telling other kids of their age which is not okay for them. Kids are exposed to things that can be misunderstood and take things negatively. What is more is that the advertisements targeting childrenââ¬â¢s aim to promote the products and services, which cater for childrenââ¬â¢s needs and have no damaging intention at all. Overall, I believe that advertising has both advantages and disadvantages. However I believe that in most cases the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. I do believe that ads should be more strictly monitored, especially during childrenââ¬â¢s viewing hours. Harsher penalties should apply to people who infringe any laws and more people should be hired to patrol exactly what is played on ads. Children see, children do.

Who Killed Princess Diana And Dodi AlFayed Free Essay Example, 1000 words
Who Killed Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed Lecturer: Who Killed Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed The press court settled on the limousine driver and the paparazzi as the killers of Princess Diana and Dodi AlFayed. Few evidences were given that lead to this theory. First and as A. Cowell wrote in his article ââ¬Å"Negligent Driving Killed Diana, Jury Findsâ⬠at the New York Times that the driver who also was the Ritzââ¬â¢s hotel head of security was off duty for few hours before he had to drive Princess Diana and Al Fayed. Following that, when the driver was off duty, he was drinking alcohol, and this has been reassured when his blood samples were tested; by this, the court concluded that the driver was drunk when he was driving. When the driver was trying to escape from the paparazzi, he was not on his healthful mind; therefore he could not escape well. In 2008, the article ââ¬Å"Jury: Princess Diana, Boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed Killed by the Driver, Paparazziâ⬠on Fox N ews adding the mentioned theory, that the fast moving limousine was slammed into a concrete pillar while being chased by the photographers on cars and motorcycles. They also add that Diana and Dodi were not wearing seat belts and this was a key cause to their death, as seat belts prevented many fatal injuries reducing them to 45% as the Highway Safety Research Center reported. The Fox news continues by saying nine photographers were charged, but the chargers were thrown by 2006, not stating why they were thrown. Therefore, the royal family, paparazzi, Al Fayed enemies, and Diana herself are all argued reasons on the semi-mysterious death of Princess Diana. Gossips were arguing that the British throne was the stirrer to Princess Dianaââ¬â¢s death. The media had reported this story in different ways. Emery wrote in his article Who Killed Princess Diana that Diana by marrying the Muslim, Dodi AlFayed, would embarrass the royal family, as he will be the stepfather of Princes William and Henry. This would make sense since the royal family is Christian and it will hurt their reputation if they had a Muslim member in their family. However, Emery mentioned that close friends denied the marriage rumors. According to Emery, â⬠It was suggested that an agent of MI6, the British intelligence service, was present at the scene, posing as a member of the press. It was suggested that a mysterious vehicle, a white Fiat Uno, was used by the conspirators to block the limousines path, forcing it to collide with the pillarâ⬠(1).

American Exodus by James N. Gregory - 557 Words
In American Exodus, James N. Gregory presents the struggles and misconceptions of the Okie migrant, their defiance to cultural oppression and the change they brought. To analyze the brunt force of the Dust Bowl and the Depression of the Great Plain region; he traces the movement from route 66, evaluates the reception in California, and shows how the migrants both accommodated and left from the culture of the Golden State. Throughout the book, he dismisses many of the stereotypes created by John Steinbeckââ¬â¢s The Grapes of Wrath (1939), and Dorothea Langeââ¬â¢s messages in photography. In doing so, Gregory presents a social wave, from the norm of stereotyping and the defiance of culture itself by bringing about unity in the form of narration of events and sub-topics. Furthermore, this event is brought to the hands of historians and future historians, a subject that often ignored in American history that has impacted various states including California. The authorââ¬â¢s noti on is that ââ¬Å"The Dust Bowl migration movement teaches us about the ways American culture is transformed through relocation.â⬠Gregoryââ¬â¢s claim is that without migration; our sense of ideals, mannerisms, and literature would not be the same. Ration books were organized by color: buff-colored books were mostly for adults, green ration books were for pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under the age of five, and blue ration books were for children from ages six to sixteen (Rationing on the US Homefront). On National Registration day, 29 September, 1939, every person in a household had to fill out a form explaining with details about who lived in their house. Ration stamps were only valid for a certain period of time so it would prevent hoarding of the stamps. The government issued ration books because they were worried that when items became scarce that the prices would go up, and poor people couldnââ¬â¢t buy the things they needed (Barrow, 2010). Rationing made sure that people got an equal amount of food every week. The government tried their hardest to make it fair for everyone. Still, some people thought that rationing was unfair (Barrow, 2010). People were encouraged to provide their own food in their homes thus starting the ââ¬ËDig for Victory! ââ¬â¢ campaign. The ââ¬ËDig for Victory! ââ¬â¢ campaign was where men and women made their yards and flower-beds into gardens to grow vegetables (Dig For Victory! , 2004). A typical ration for one adult per week was: butter 50g (2oz), sugar 225g (8oz), cheese 50g (2oz), jam 450g (1lb) every two months, bacon and ham 100g, meat to the value of 1s. 2d (1 shilling and sixpence e er week, eggs 1 fresh egg a week, dried eggs 1 packet every four weeks, margarine 100g (4oz), milk 3 pints (1800 ml), tea 50g (2oz), sweets 350g (12oz) every four weeks (Barrow, 2010). With the above list of rationed items, each person was allowed sixteen points to use on whatever rationed item they wanted. Pregnant women, mothers who are nursing their children or children under the age of five were allowed to pick their choice of fruit, daily pint of milk and double eggs first (Barrow, 2010). Clothes rationing began two years after food rationing started. During World War II, there was a shortage in material for clothing. The shortage made people to ââ¬Å"make due and mendâ⬠so that way factory workers could make uniforms, and parachutes for the war (Giullian, 2010). The government gave each person a ration book for clothes. Just like food rationing, when people wanted to buy new clothes, all they had to do was bring their ration book to the store and then buy they clothes they wanted, then you hand over your ration book to the storekeeper and they mark off what the person got in their ration books. The coupon system allowed people to get a new set of clothing each year. Coupons were a different color so they wouldnââ¬â¢t use all their coupons at once. The government told the people when they could use their other coupons. At first, each person was given 60 coupons to last them the whole year. Later on the coupon amount dropped to 48. Children were assigned an extra 10 ration coupons for their clothing in case they grow during the year. What would you buy with 60 coupons to last you the whole year? Fourteen years of rationed food and it finally came to an end because meat and bacon restrictions were lifted. Rationing of food ended nine years after the war ended. Rationing ended on 4 July, 1954 (Barrow, 2010). Fourteen years of rationing, people could finally enjoy buying the necessities they needed for their daily life. Men, women, and children went back to a normal lifestyle they were used to. References Barrow, M.. (2010, Month. Day). Inà Rationing During WWWII. Software Engineering Management Technological Risk
Question: Describe about the Software Engineering Management? Answer: Introduction Risk management can be defined as the process of identifying risks in advance and thereby analyzing them for reducing the risks (Chen, Hoi Xiao, 2013). This process identifies, assesses as well as prioritizes the risks for preventing it and minimizing the effect of it. This assignment deals with the risks that include technical, managerial as well as financial risks. Security Risk- This kind of risk is also termed as electronic risk that involves risk in keeping the data secured within the office premises (Khan, 2010). These risk occur due to loss of data, data redundancy etc by the employees of the organization or higher officials. In order to mitigate the security risk, the organization needs to use strong security system such as upgraded antivirus, firewalls, data encryption etc. that will keep the data safe and sound within the organization (Mishra Misra, 2010). If it seen that the organization is receiving some data or sending some data that is modified or lost in between, then contingency plan is used. Funding Risk- For every organization, the funding risk is another risk that needs to be taken care off (Kamyabniya Bagherpour, 2014). The cash flow need to be adequate regarding the financial obligations. Some assets also need to be kept in stock for preventing the funding risk. Human Risk- The human risk is another risk that needs to be kept in mind for the organization (Lee Yong, 2009). The organization need to contain more and more expertise human force for accomplishment of the job. To mitigate the risk more human force need to be involved in a positive direction, for reducing the human risk (Rose, 2014). Process Risk- This risk involves the efficient process that helps the organization in carrying out the process effectively (Rech Bogner, 2010). If this is not maintained properly then a high risk s involved. For mitigating it, effective and efficient as well as upgraded process need to be applied. Market Risk- This risk involves the interest rates, exchange rates, commodity prices, and stock prices etc. that need to be considered (Ulkuniemi, Araujo Thtinen, 2015). This risk need to be mitigated by keeping updated to the market. Upgraded software and efficient market research helps in reducing market risk. Manufacturing Risk- The manufacturing risk includes the procedure of producing the products or services (Tony Lee, 2010). To reduce the risk of bad quality product, the organization needs to upgrade and notice the process of manufacturing. Product Acceptance Risk- With the changing market trend, the taste of the customers also change that gives rise to the product acceptance risk (Karamitsos, 2010). To mitigate this risk, continuous market trend need to be seen and analyzed for providing products according to their choices. Time Risk- This risk contains the time that the project need to complete within time. For reducing the risk, the organization need to make a allocate time for each of the task allocated (Amritesh Misra, 2014). Leadership Risk- For a good management within the organization, the leaders should have a good knowledge about the whole situation of the organization (Altunok Cakmak, 2010). To reduce the risk of having a bad leader, the employees need to participate actively for giving rates to the leaders. Technological Risk- For monitoring risk, the team needs to be keep hawks eye to every task within the organization. For handling the emergencies, the team members need to discuss about the risks previously for understanding the probable risks. But there are some risks that are urgent and can arrive at any time. For handling these risks, the team members need to work as a team for solving the problem. Initially there are some risks that need whole team involvement ad there are some tasks that the members can handle all alone. The top ten risks that are mentioned above need a fortnight up gradation for handling the risks. Risk Management options description measurement Frequency of collection of data Time required (minutes per week) Method of measurement Scale used Up gradation of software For securing the data, avoid data redundancy and making the most use of modern technology for making the work easy Development process Once in a fortnight 840 minutes per week Algorithmic interval Employee satisfaction Necessary for keeping the employees happy for greater productivity Development process Once in a month 60 minutes per week Algorithmic nominal Tracking the market trend Necessary for keeping pace with the changing development Product Once in a week 360 minutes per week Subjective ratio Keeping the funds aside for emergencies Required when there will be sufficient lack of funds Product development Once in a month 720 minutes per week subjective ordinal Good leadership Required for the progression of the team Development process Once in every 4 months 60 minutes per week algorithmic nominal Table 1: Risk Management (Source: As created by Author) References Altunok, T., Cakmak, T. Evolution Through Natural Selection Essays - Evolutionary Biology
Evolution Through Natural Selection Children often play a game called telephone, where one child whispers a statement into another childs ear, and the statement is passed on to other children; at the end of the game the last child will repeat the statement that was told to him or her. The majority of the time, the statement said would be completely different than the original one. This is an example of evolution through natural selection; where somewhere along the life span of the statement, it was modified, and the modified statement was passed on to form a new statement. Charles Darwin stated that, individuals are the unit of selection; the struggle for existence is a matter among individuals. In this statement Darwin is referring to natural selection. Natural selection is defined as the differential contribution of offspring resulting from variations in heritable traits. As a result of natural selection, certain individuals in a given population produce certain traits that others do not. Natural selection is the only agent that adapts organisms to their environment; if a species cannot adapt to their environment, eventually they will be extinct. In my visit to the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), I observed many interesting things concerning the issue on evolution and natural selection. An example of evolutionism I saw in the AMNH was the Hall of Human Biology and Evolution. This hall concentrated on human evolution and how certain traits arose through successful generationsuch as the change in the skeletal system as a result of walking upright. Fossils of Australopithecus afarensis, which is believed to be the earliest human relative, are dated back nearly 4 million years. The Hall of the Vertebrate Origins is another exhibit that shows evidence of evolutionism. The purpose of this hall is to show that all vertebrates had a common ancestor. That common ancestor had a brain case and a backbone. As time progressed, the vertebrates developed limbs that were supported by the backbone, and had watertight eggs. The Hall of Saurischian Dinosaurs and the Hall of Ornithischian Dinosaurs are more examples of evolution within vertebrates. However, these two halls do not have much in common with our line of ancestry except for the fact that a backbone and brain case are present; any other things in common with our lineage are but minor details. That is why the AMNH has another hall called Mammals and Extinct Relatives. The hall, Mammals and Extinct Relatives, is devoted to showing how all mammals evolved from the earliest forms of vertebrates. A big evolutionary change that separates mammals from other forms of animals is the development of the placenta and the formation of the middle ear. The hall that I believe to be the most interesting of all halls in the AMNH, is the Hall of Biodiversity. In this hall we can see a large spectrum of life from the broad Kingdom to the specific Species is found in this part of the museum. The amount of information that one can obtain from just this hall alone is overwhelming. From the simple far left (true bacteria) to the complex far right of the hall shows us a great difference in species as well as many similarities. But more importantly, the hall shows that many of the more complex living species today have evolved from another living or extinct species in the past. Furthermore, those living/extinct species in the past originated from another more ancient species, and so on. Natural selection is a nonrandom event and is a process that happens over large periods of time. The offspring that carry a certain trait that is favored due to a certain environment will be carried on more successfully by their offspring. Due to this process change, even if it is minute, will occur over a small number of generations. If such selection continues to occur more complex forms of a simpler body plan will arise. The Concept of Genetic Privacy Essays
The Concept of Genetic Privacy Essays The Concept of Genetic Privacy Paper The Concept of Genetic Privacy Paper Genetic information is unique. It tells not only about an individual, but also about an individuals family. Unlike medical information, genetic information does not change over time. Genetic information is more than health information; it also reveals our heritage and connections to relatives and communities. Where does genetic information belong in our scale of respect for and protection of personal privacy? What level of privacy restrictions, if any, should be put on genetic information? Some genetic information, such as the color of our hair and skin, is obvious and cannot be kept secret. But what about that genetic information which is less apparent to others, such as our risk for developing a health disorder late in life? Who should be able to have access to this information? Privacy rules set limits on who can access genetic information, and how they may do so. The concept of genetic privacy is split into three primary elements: genetic information as private, confidentiality of genetic information, and the possible use of genetic information to discriminate against individuals or groups. The reason why I am dividing genetic privacy into these three elements is because they are the key essentials that can be debated for or against privacy. In this paper, I will discuss the debates for and against genetic privacy. I will present my position on these debates providing my argument against genetic privacy, respond with how someone may reply to the position advocated, and finally conclude with my belief that setting restrictions on genetic privacy is very difficult and impossible with the issue of discrimination while still taking into consideration of the other side of the argument. Genetic information being kept private can be seen as possible or impossible. Without federal laws to protect the privacy of patients and the confidentiality of medical records, efforts to reform the nations health care system will not be completely successful. Laws will protect an individualââ¬â¢s private information and if they did not exist, rights may be violated. How would that benefit the society? Information about genes will most likely be kept in a medical or medical research location. ââ¬Å"In a typical hospital, at least eighty people have access to medical recordsâ⬠(Lebacqz 243). Therefore, if genetic information is included in a personââ¬â¢s medical record, it would mean that a wide range of people would have access to this private information. Privacy of genetic information or of medical records may not be as possible without legal protections. There are very few federal legal protections and unreliable state protections for medical records to protect privacy. Federal restrictions should be placed on the access to all medical records prior to the further improvement of genetic science. By making laws that will define the responsibilities (ethical and legal) of those with justifiable authorization to access personal medical information, privacy will be maintained. Medical and genetic information posses a greater possibility of being kept private because of the already existing promise made by health care providers to ensure doctor/patient confidentiality. If legal protections are made, the privacy of genetic information would be more possible, but could confidentiality exist? Confidentiality is a major debate in genetic privacy. If people are going to adventure through genetic screening, insurance will become a big issue in keeping the genetic information private. Should genetic information be kept confidential and not be shown to insurance companies? If insurance companies are allowed access to this information, many people may not be able to afford it. ââ¬Å"Genetic test results may be used by commercial insurers for the purpose of risk classification and the calibrating of premiums to risk status, especially in connection with the issuance of individual health insurance policies,â⬠(Peters 214). By using this quote, I am backing up my point that people with genetic diseases will automatically be put into risk classification and agents will change them to high-risk which will be unfair to the individuals. As premiums rise to cover the unhealthy clients, fewer and fewer people will be able to afford insurance. These genetic tests may lead to an increase in the number of individuals on high-risk insurance and also contributing to the increase in people who lack insurance. By restricting health insurance and holding genetic information extremely confidential during the growth of genetic research, people will be able to obtain adequate health insurance and will not be deprived of their rights to privacy without regards to their genetic background. Genetic research is expanding in great ways in hopes to perfect society. While these breakthroughs hold great promise for improving medical treatments, they also present the issue of discrimination. Every human being is more than likely carrying at least one flawed gene. So consequently, every man, woman, and child in the world is a potential victim of discrimination. It is unfair to discriminate against someone because of genetic characteristics that do or do not limit his or her abilities. An example based on genetic information would be as follows: if an employer was able to find out anyoneââ¬â¢s genetic background, and then avoid hiring workers they believe are likely to take sick leave, resign, or retire early for health reasons. The big issue with this is that the employers are just hypothesizing without giving the benefit of the doubt. Employers should be prohibited from requesting or requiring genetic information. An employee may have the background of a genetic disease and be discriminated against it when they may not even carry the disease. Would that be fair? If employers gain access to this information, many qualified individuals will be left without jobs, which may even turn around and hurt the employer more. By limiting an employerââ¬â¢s ability to see individual employee medical records, discrimination can be lessened, however, not completely avoided. In response to these different viewpoints, my position is fairly easy to understand. Using all of the information that I have read and researched about, I do not think that it is fully possible to restrict all genetic information from being freely available. Genetic information is a difficult aspect to maintain completely private. Medical records are a good example to use as a foundation of my argument. Health insurance companies obtain permission to see medical records. If genetic information is placed on these records, people will have a difficult time getting decent premiums if they have a background of genetic problems in their family. People who have a low income will have a less advantage of getting the best insurance. That is where discrimination evolves into a large predicament. Discrimination will always be a problem. Some restrictions may be made to protect genetic privacy, but not all-genetic information will be kept completely private. Take employment as an example. A person shouldnââ¬â¢t be forced to give permission for employers to see their genetic information. Business and profit rights should not proceed human rights. Every person should have the right to get a good job, regardless of his or her genetic makeup. The choice of publicly displaying a personââ¬â¢s genetic information should be decided by the individual. It should not be used for reason of hiring or raise. If the person is qualified for the job, then he or she should have the right to the job without the issue of discrimination. Privacy and confidentiality may hold a point, but it does not protect people against discrimination. Not all information can be kept private because science will not be able to advance. If scientists and doctors do not share their information, science will not progress. Every new discovery is shared with others and that is how it becomes known and critiqued. Without the advancement of science, we would not be where we are today with genetics. If a person has Huntingtonââ¬â¢s disease in their genetic background, scientists will research and use that to help them move forward to find a way to help that person and the people of further generations. If there are laws designed to protect genetic test results in an effort to prevent genetic discrimination, it may make it more difficult to gather the sort of data that will help researchers solve genetic problems. Privacy may possibly postpone or stop the advancement of genetics. Someone may respond to my position advocated by saying human rights are very important when it comes to genetics. By making genetic information private, it will be kept from getting into the wrong hands and will not be used to discriminate. Genetic information can be used to discover personal traits of an individuals life. That information can be used to invade a persons private life, to alter a persons sense of self, and family identity. Genomic information can also affect families and ethnic groups that share genetic similarities. If people are truly seeking protection from discrimination by using the principles of confidentiality and privacy, then genetic information can be controlled. The rights of the individual for employment, insurance, and medical care can then be protected. Genetic privacy is a very difficult discussion because of its uniqueness. I have stated my response to genetic privacy, and through all of the research I have done, I still stand on the point that discrimination will always be a problem and human rights will always be violated due to our conventionally corrupt society. Through time, laws and regulations will be revised to protect the human rights, but as genetic privacy grows, privacy will become more and more difficult to be instilled in the health care profession.
